A zener diode, having breakdown voltage equal to 15 V, is used in a voltage regulator circuit shown in figure.
The current through the diode( in mA) is
Voltage drop across 250 Ω=20−15=5 V
∴ Current through 250 Ω=5250=150A= 20 mA
Current through the 1 kΩ resistance
=15 V1000Ω=15×10−3A=15 mA
∴ Current through the diode
=(20–15)=5 mA.
