Question

AB2 and A2B3 are two compounds of the elements A and B. 0.15 mole of each of these compounds weighs 9.3 and 15.9 g respectively. Find the atomic masses of A and B.

Open in App
Solution

Let molar mass of A be x g mole1
Let molar mass of B be y g mole1

Number of moles=Given massMolar mass

0.15= 9.3x+2y and 0.15 =15.92x+3y

x+2y=62 and 2x+3y=106

y=18 g mole1 and x=26 g mole1.

Hence the atomic mass of x is 26 u and y is 18 u
