Solution

The correct option is B manifest unpleasant withdrawal syndrome
Drugs are chemical substances which can bring about physical or psychological changes in an organism’s body. Some drugs can provide a sense of immediate euphoria, a temporary sense of well-being and instant relief from pain etc. These perceived benefits lead to the regular intake of prescription or illicit drugs in higher than prescribed doses. This is known as drug abuse.

Regular abuse of drugs causes addiction which masks the judgement of an individual and causes them to ignore all the negative effects of drugs on their mind, body and life.

Drug addiction is the habitual, physiological and psychological dependence on a substance which is beyond control. With repeated usage, the tolerance of the body increases and the body starts responding only to higher doses. This reinforces addiction and regular misuse of these potentially dangerous drugs.

As the time passes, the body develops a mental and physical dependence on the drugs because of which the body fails to function properly in the absence of drugs. The tendency of the body to manifest an unpleasant withdrawal syndrome if a regular dose of drugs is abruptly discontinued is called dependence.

Thus abruptly discontinuing regular doses of a drug, for which the body has developed dependence, can result in the manifestation of some unpleasant withdrawal symptoms to combat with the absence of the drug. These symptoms include anxiety, shakiness, nausea, sweating, vomiting, etc. A person is relieved of these symptoms once the drug intake is resumed.

There is no instant cure to drug addiction. It is a long process which requires medication, will power, guidance, counselling from professionals and the love and support of near and dear ones.

The usage of drugs generally affects mental abilities which in turn results in bad academic performance. But abruptly discontinuing drugs would not lead to overnight improvement in academic performance.

Liver cirrhosis is a long term effect caused due to alcohol addiction. It is a state when the liver has been damaged and replaced by a scar tissue (made up of dead cells) which causes complete loss of function of the liver.
