At poles, acceleration of gravity has a slightly smaller value because of two reasons:
  • The earth is not perfectly spherical in shape. At poles, the diameter of earth is slightly higher. This results in a reduction in the value of 'g', as it is inversely proportional to square of distance from the center.
  • Due to the rotation of the earth, there is a reduction in the value of 'g' when seen from the earth's surface. However, at poles the effect of rotation is not present further increasing the value of 'g'.
