Under Bentham and Hooker's classification, Ranunculaceae the first family of dicotyledons under the order Ranales is the most primitive one among Angiosperms. This is accepted by most Taxonomist. According to the ranalian school of thought, Ranalian flower evolved from cycedeioidea cone. The bracts of the cone evolved into perianth lobes, microsporophylls into stamens and megasporophylls into carpels and the cone axis reduced and evolved into thalamus of the ranalian flower.
