Solution

The correct option is D Variations best suited to environmental conditions
Darwin’s theory of evolution has two main aspects to it, namely natural selection and adaptation; that work jointly in the inheritance of traits within a population.

Natural selection occurs through an interaction between the environment and the variability among the individuals making up a population. Basically both natural selection and adaptation are the integral part of evolution, nature selects the fittest and the fittest will adapt to nature even in hostile environments and then the adaptations are inherited to the offsprings.

Variation is the fundamental mechanism that supports adaptation to the environment; superior/essential adaptive variation passes on to the next generation and this variation makes them fit to survive in the constantly changing environment. The organisms that adapt and develop new favorable character will only survive in the long run of evolution.
