Question

According to mole concept it says that a standard volume i.e 22.4 liters of gas contains 1 mole right?

And one mole contains 6.023*1023 right sir so then how did they come to know this, means as if they counted each and every atom or molecule ?

So please explain about this sir.

Solution

Before defining the avogadro’s number the scientist discovered that 12 gram of carbon will be known as one mole carbon. Same for other elements, like 16 gram of oxygen is known as 1 mole of oxygen. That time they knew the charge on one faraday which they called charge on one mole of electron.

The charge on a mole of electrons had been known for some time and is the constant called the Faraday. The best estimate of the value of a Faraday, according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is 96,485.3383 coulombs per mole of electrons. The best estimate of the charge on an electron based on modern experiments is 1.60217653 x 10-19

coulombs per electron. If you divide the charge on a mole of electrons by the charge on a single electron you obtain a value of Avogadro’s number of

6.02214154 x 1023
