There are three types of meristems present i.e. apical, lateral and intercalary. Apical meristems are present in the shoot apex and it helps in the lengthening of it. In the distal part of the apical meristem, there are some tissues called waiting for meristem or dormant meristem waiting to attain the reproductive stage. Surrounding the zone of the waiting meristem, there are some other tissues which are actively dividing in nature, where the rate of cell division is very high. These tissues form the anneal rings and are known as annaeu initiale.
