The Act has laid down many rules, like the accused of gang rape shall face a minimum imprisonment of 20 years, and may extend for life. It promotes the recruitment of more women police officers to address the complaints of victims. It is not mandatory for the victim to appear individually in front of the police officers. In case the accused is killed in self-defence during an acid attack, the victim shall not be punished.
