Pituitary gland:

  1. It is a small gland of the size of a pea located in the backside of the brain's base.
  2. It is attached to the hypothalamus by means of a stalk like structure called the infundibulum.
  3. The pituitary gland is known as master gland as it regulates the functioning of other endocrine glands.
  4. The anterior lobe of the pituitary gland produces tropic hormones such as the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) etc. which influences the function of other glands in the body.
