Question

Action and reaction are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. Then why don't they balance each other?

Solution

Action/reaction pairs do not both act on the same object. One acts on the object, and the other acts on your hand, or whatever is applying the force. Only the forces acting on an object matter to its equilibrium.
