Let us add whole numbers and fraction parts separately.

$= (1 + 2 + 3) + (\frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{8} + \frac{1}{4})$

$= 6 + (\frac{1}{6} + \frac{1}{8} + \frac{1}{4})$

$= 6 + \frac{1 \times 4}{6 \times 4} + \frac{1 \times 3}{8 \times 3} + \frac{1 \times 6}{4 \times 6};$ [Since, the L.C.M. of 6, 8 and 4 = 24]

$= 6 + \frac{4}{24} + \frac{3}{24} + \frac{6}{24}$

$= 6 + \frac{4 + 3 + 6}{24}$

$= 6 + \frac{13}{24}$

$= 6 \frac{13}{24}$
