$\Rightarrow 17 + (- 5) = 17 - 5 = 12$

Now, adding 3 and (-15) to 12

$\Rightarrow 12 + 3 + (- 15) = 15 + (- 15)$

$\Rightarrow 15 - 15 = 0$
