As these are unlike fractions, we need to convert the fractions into like fractions.

Multiply 12 with 2 to convert the denominator into 4, we get:

12 = 1×22×2 = 24

Now add these two fractions,
12+14=24+14=2+14=34

The fraction 34 is already in the simplest form as both the numerator and the denominator has no common factors
=3×12×2

Hence, 12+14 = 34
