Adding using number line
We know that, when we move left on the number line, the value decreases.
From the given number line, we are moving $2$ units to the left from $+ 4$ and arrive at $2$ .
Therefore,
$\begin{array}{rcl} (+ 4) - (2) & = & + 2 \end{array}$
Hence, we get $+ 2$ when we add $- 2$ to $+ 4$ .
