$\therefore$ L.C.M of denominators $4\text{and}8=8$
Expressing each of the given rational number with $8$ as common denominator
$\Rightarrow \frac{3}{4}=\frac{3\times 2}{4\times 2}=\frac{6}{8}$
Now, $\frac{3}{4}+\frac{-5}{8}=\frac{6}{8}+\frac{-5}{8}$

$=\frac{6+(-5)}{8}$

$=\frac{6-5}{8}$
$=\frac{1}{8}$

Hence, the sum of $\frac{3}{4}\text{and}\frac{-5}{8}$ is $\frac{1}{8}$.
