Aditya was kidnapped and hung upside down. The kidnappers tried feeding him and Aditya was surprised that he could eat the food by defying gravity and wondered what is wrong with his body. Which of the below phenomenon is responsible for this behaviour?
Peristalsis
The food moves through the digestive tract not because of gravity but due to repeated contractions and relaxations that occur throughout the digestive tract. The contractions and relaxations move the food forward and into the digestive system. This is called peristalsis. Peristalsis is in fact responsible for the movement of the food eaten by Aditya even though he is upside down.
