Adjoining fig, ABCD is a trapezium with ABDC and BCD=300. Fig. BGEC is a sector of a circle with centre C and AB = BC = 7 cm, DE = 4 cm and BF = 3.5 cm, then find the area of the shaded region. (Useπ=227)

Solution

AB=7cm,DE=4cm,BF=3.5cm
BC=DE+EC=(4+7)cm=11cm
Area pf trapezium ABCD=12×(Sum of parallelogram)×(Distance between them)
=12×(11+7)×3.5
=12×18×3.5
=31.5cm2
Area of the sector BGEC=30360×229×7×7
=112×22×7
=12.83cm2
Area of shaded region = Area of trapezium - Arc of sector
(31.512.88)cm2
=18.67cm2
