Elaboration: Mammalian RBCs are synthesised in the bone marrow. On attaining maturity, they undergo a process called enucleation in which the nucleus is removed along with other organelles.

The absence of a nucleus and other organelles allows the red blood cells to contain more hemoglobin. Hence, adequate space is availble for oxygen transport to the body tissues. Thus enucleation is necessary for the fulfilment of primary functions of RBCs.
