Ethan can land on the area other than the swamp. This area is the area of the parallelogram from which we have to subtract the area of the swamp.We know that one of the sides of the swamp is 4 m and to find the other side we should use Pythagoras theorem.

Using Pythagoras Theorem,
AB2 = AC2 + BC2
25 = 16 + BC2
BC2 = 9
BC = 3 m

So, the other side of the swamp area is 7m - 3m = 4m

The area where he can land = area of parallelogram - area of the square

= (base x height) - (length x breadth)

= (7 × 4) - (4 × 4) = 28 - 16 = 12 m2
