After doing an activity of electroplating of an iron strip a student interchange the connection of the electrodes. What do you think will happen now?
When the electric current is passed, copper from the copper sulphate gets plated on the iron whereas copper from the copper plate gets disassociated into the copper sulphate solution. If the electrodes are interchanged, then iron will displace copper from the copper sulphate solution and turn it into iron sulphate. ( thus the solution also turns from blue to green)
Now the process of electrolysis will happen but in the opposite direction that is the iron will get plated on copper ( as iron from iron sulphate gets plated on copper and iron from the iron plate gets disassociated to the iron sulphate).
