Let the present age of father and son is x and y years, respectively.
After 5 years, age of son =y+5 years.
∴y+5=x2
⇒x−2y=10 ...(a)
Five years ago, age of the father and son was x−5 and y−5, respectively.
∴(x−5)+(y−5)=75
⇒x+y=85 ...(b)
Eliminating y by subtracting (a) from (b) we get,
x+y−(x−2y)=85−10
⇒y+2y=75
⇒y=753
⇒y=25
Substituting in (b) we get,
⇒x=85−y
⇒x=85−25=60
∴ Age of father and son is 60 years and 25 years, respectively.
