After generation of action potential, the recovery process is called _____.
Repolarisation
After generation of action potential, the recovery process is called repolarization. The onset of action potential is marked by the opening of voltage-gated Na+ channels. The depolarisation that occurs due to this causes the neuron membrane to attain a voltage that triggers the opening of voltage-gated K+ channels. Then K+ ions rush out through this channels, reducing the positive charge inside the neuron and causing repolarisation of the neuronal membrane.
