After getting two discounts, a shirt with a marked price of ₹1500 is available at ₹1050. If the second discount is 12.5%, find the first discount.
Let the first discount be x%.
Marked Price of shirt = ₹1500
Price after first discount =100−x100×Marked Price=100−x100×1500
Again 12.5% discount is given on the shirt after initial discount.
Price after second discount = ₹1050
⇒105=100−12.5100×100−x100×1500
1050=87.5100×100−x100×1500
100−x=1050 ×100 ×1001500 × 87.5=80
x = 100 - 80 = 20
So, the first discount is 20%.
