After mitotic divisions, the zygote is termed a/an ________ for the first two months of development.
Embryo
The zygote is the very first stage of life and is formed after the union of egg and sperm (female and male gametes respectively). About 24 hours after the fusion, the first division of the new cell happens, and it is no longer called zygote. The embryonic period begins. From the moment two cells exist up until the 8th week of gestation, the development of the embryo takes place, after which the foetal stage begins.
