Mahatma Gandhi started three local Satyagrahas after returning to India from South Africa. The first Satyagraha was at Champaran in Bihar in 1917 where he took up the cause of the indigo cultivators. The next Satyagraha taken up by Gandhi was in the Kheda district of Gujarat in 1918 where he helped the peasants who were struggling to pay taxes to the British government. The last of his initial Satyagrahas was the Ahmedabad Satyagraha of 1918. In this, he intervened in a dispute between the mill owners and mill workers in Ahmedabad.
