Digestion of food starts in the mouth. Teeth helps in breaking down large food particles into small fragments. These fragments are mixed with saliva and are converted into bolus. The bolus then enters the stomach through oesophagus by rhythmic contraction and relaxation of its muscular walls. This process is called peristalsis.
