Amount of oxygen in air decreases as the height increases.


As we go up, the density of air decreases with increasing height and so the amount of oxygen present in air also decreases. With increasing height air becomes thinner and thinner and there is no sufficient amount of oxygen in air for breathing. To maintain the continuous and sufficient supply of oxygen for breathing mountaineers carry oxygen cylinders with them.
