Solution

The correct option is B

Asteroid Impact and volcanic eruption.

Regarding the extinction in the year 1800, scientists directed their research around two theories i.e., asteroid impact and volcanic eruption. While researching about the causes of extinction scientists found a thin layer of rock on the earth which was 65 million years old. This layer was made up of metal iridium which was generally found on the surface of comets and meteors, not on the earth. So scientists assumed that some years ago asteroids would have struck the surface of earth and the layer of iridium would have scattered all over the world. This theory was named as asteroid impact theory.

There was another assumption by the scientist in which they believed that the layer of iridium would have scattered from the core of earth. It is found that earth's core is rich in iridium metal. So there is a chance that due to heat or some other reason iridium metal would have expelled out of the earth's core due to volcanic eruption and would have spread all over the world.
