Solution

Instructions: Divide the answer into the following points for a clear approach:
  • Reasons for the revolt.
  • The different ways in which they revolted.
Solution:

The reasons why the Adivasi revolt took place were:
  • After the advent of the British, they could not follow their traditional ways of cultivation. This resulted in them losing their source of income and being forced to work in places like the forest department and with people like the moneylenders and other farmers.
  • Due to the construction of roads and railways, people began to live in Adivasi areas and seized their land too.
  • The forest department became quite powerful and ill-treated the Adivasis.
  • This angered the Adivasis, and they began to protest. During these protests, they burned police stations, posts of the forest department and houses of the moneylenders. They even set fire to the entire jungle.
  • These protests were made by the Santhal, Koya, Maria and Muria, and the Gond and Kolam Adivasis.
