Burning: When fuel reacts with oxygen to release heat energy is known as burning. It is also known as combustion.

Air is necessary for burning demonstrated as follows.

  1. Cover the burning candle with a glass jar.
  2. After a few minutes, the candle is extinguished. As the supply of air is stopped due to the glass jar the burning of the candle is also stopped.
  3. This experiment proves that air supports burning.
