Smog

Reduction in quality of air because of increase in content of harmful substances is called air pollution. These harmful substances can include particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen, sulphur, etc.
Inhalation of these harmful substances can cause allergies, cancer, heart diseases, etc.
Presence of high levels of these pollutants causes the visibility of air to be lowered. This generally happens in very cold weather conditions when water also condenses out of air. This type of air pollution is called smog.
