Question

Akhil and Sanjeev were given two baskets of mangoes of equal number. Akhil added 2 mangoes to his basket while Sanjeev also added 2 mangoes to his basket. After some time their friend Sarath counted the number of mangoes in the two boxes. What can be said, in terms of the number of mangoes in the boxes?

The correct option is B The number of mangoes in both the boxes are the same.
To answer the given question use the below axiom:

"If equals are added to equals, the wholes are equal."

It is very evident that if an equal number of mangoes are added to an equal number of mangoes in the baskets, the resultant number of mangoes will also be equal.

Let us assume the boxes given to Akhil and Sanjeev contains x numbers of mangoes.

Now, after Akhil and Sanjeev adds 2 mangoes in their respective boxes the total numbers of mangoes in the boxes will be x+2.

Hence, the number of mangoes in the boxes are the same.
