Alcohols cannot be used as a solvent for Grignard reagent as alcohols react with Grignard reagent. Grignard reagent removes acidic H atom from alcohols.
$C H_{3} - O H + C H_{3} - M g - B r \to C H_{4} + C H_{3} - O - M g - B r$
Hence, diethyl ether / tetrahydro furan is the suitable solvent for Grignard reagent.
