Alcohols react with halogen acid to form haloalkanes but phenol does not form halobenzenes. Explain

Dear student,
Reaction between alcohol and halogen acids follow nucleophilic substitution reaction , in case of phenol due to +M effect it becomes electron rich ( Source of electrons ) that os why it does not further allows the another electron rich species ( Nucleophile ) that is why it does not forms halo benzene wit halogen acids .
