Solution

Alex has different types of sweets with him.

We need to find the greatest number of sweets so that Alex can pack them in the box.

So firstly we need to find the factors of 14, 12 and 8.

Factors of 14 = 1, 2, 7, 14

Factors of 12 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12

Factors of 8 = 1, 2, 4, 8

From among the factors we need to find the common factors.

Common factors of 14, 12 and 8 = 1, 2.

So the greatest number of sweets for each box to pack is 2.
