The correct option is D
  • As stroking is done anticlockwise i.e. Firstly, the North pole of the magnet is rubbed with the left end of the nail and then the North pole of the magnet reaches the right end of the nail.
  • Due to stroking, the leftmost part of the nail behaves as the north pole while the other is the south pole of a magnet.
  • When a compass is brought near the right end of the nail. The red part of the needle(the North pole of the compass needle) will be attracted towards the right end of the nail( As the right end behaves like a south pole after stroking).
  • Out of the four options, option D correctly depicts the orientation of the magnetic needle.
