Question

Ali cycles for 16 days, riding 20 km each day. Sam cycles for 20 days, riding 16 km each day. Who cycles a farther distance?

Open in App
Solution

Number of days Ali cycles = 16
Distance covered in one day = 20 km
Therefore Total Distance covered by Ali = Number of days × Distance of one day=16× 20= 320 km
Similarly,
Number of days Sam cycles = 20
Distance covered by Sam in one day = 16 km
Therefore Total Distance covered by Sam= Number of days ×Distance of one day=20× 16= 320 km.
Clearly, 16× 20=20× 16 holds Commutative property of multiplication.

Hence both Ali and Sam covered the same distance.
