Alima has $76$ coins, all of $50$ p and $25$ p. Find the number of each, if the total money she has is Rs. $29$

Let the number of $50$ paise coins $=x$

Let the number of $25$ paise coins $=y$

Total coins $=x+y$

So,

$x+y=76$ ............... (1)

The value of $50$ paise coins $=\frac{x}{2}$

The value of $25$ paise coins $=\frac{y}{4}$

Total money Alima has, is Rs. $29$

So,

$\frac{x}{2}+\frac{y}{4}=29$

$\frac{2x+y}{4}=29$

$2x+y=116$ .............. (2)

Subtract equation (1) from (2),

$2x+y-x-y=116-76$

$x=40$

So, from equation (1),

$y=76-40$

$y=36$
