Question

All chemical changes are accompanied by chemical reactions. These reactions are described in sentence form with the help of chemical equations in terms of symbols and formulae of substances involved. Initially, the equation is in a skeletal form which is then balanced so that the total number of reactant species is the same as that of product species.

Why should a chemical equation be made molecular?

Solution

Chemical equation:

  1. Chemical equations are symbolic representations of chemical reactions in which the reactants and the products are expressed in terms of their respective chemical formulae.

Explanation:

  1. It is important to make chemical equations molecular or balanced so they follow the law of conservation of mass.
  2. It says that in a chemical reaction, the total mass of reactant species should be equal to the total mass of product species.
  3. Also, most of the gasses like H2 exist in the molecular form.

Hence, to fulfill the condition of the law of conservation of mass and as most gases exist in the molecular form a chemical equation must be made molecular.
