A pair of adjacent angles which sum up to 180 form a linear pair.

So, to form a linear pair, the following conditions have to be satisfied:

  1. The angles should be adjacent
  2. They should sum up to 180 [in other words, they should be supplementary]

However, any pair of supplementary angles need not necessarily be an adjacent pair of angles.

For example, the angles shown in the figure are supplementary but do not form an adjacent pair.

Hence they are not linear pair as well.
