Question

All non-chordates are schizococlomates and chordates are enterocoelomates. Do you agree with the above statement? Give reasons for your positive or negative answer.

Solution

Schizocoelomates have coelom which develops as a split in the mesoderm. For example, Phylum Annelida to Arthropoda. On the other hand, enterocoelomates have coelom which is formed from the pouches of archenteron or primitive gut. For example, Phylum Chordata and Echinodermata.
Hence, we do not agree with the statement given in the question because not all non-chordates are schizocoelomates. For example, Phylum Porifera is acoelomate while Phylum Aschelminthes and Nematoda are pseudocoelomates.
