• Transport: Protein like haemoglobin is involved in gaseous transport, albumin helps in the transport of ions, drugs, calcium, etc.
• Digestive enzymes like trypsin, pepsin, amylase, etc. cause digestion of food.
• Receptor proteins occur on the cell membrane. These are capable of binding with specific molecules and triggering cellular effects.
• Some help in other vital functions such as contraction, movement of muscles, cell division and progression of the cell cycle, providing structural support and more.

Carrying genetic information is not the function of the protein. The genetic information is carried by nucleic acids such as DNA and RNA.
