Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Aluminium vessels should not be cleaned with washing soda because it reacts with aluminium to form sodium aluminate with the release if hydrogen gas. The reaction that takes place is written as follows:

2Al + Na2CO3 + 3H2O 2NaAlO2 + CO2 + 3H2Aluminium Sodium Water Sodium Carbon Hydrogen carbonate aluminate dioxide

The salt formed gets deposited on the surface of metals and damages its shine.
