Squamous epithelium is made of a thin layer of flattened cells with irregular boundaries. The nucleus is found in the upper surface of cell membrane giving an embossed look. It is abundantly present in the blood vessels, alveoli of lungs, intestine etc. Squamous epithelial cells in the alveoli allow oxygen from the air to enter the blood in the capillaries of the lung.
