Question

Ammonia and oxygen reacts at higher temperatures as 4NH3(g)+5O2(g)4NO(g)+6H2O(g)
In an experiment, the concentration of NO increase by 1.08×102mol litre1 in 3 seconds. calculate.
(i) rate of reaction.
(ii) rate of disappearance of ammonia
(iii) rate of formation of water

Solution

4NH3+5O24NO+6H2O,
(i) rate of reaction = 14×dNH3dt
= 14×1.08×1023
= 9×104
(ii)rate of dissappearance of ammonia×(14) =rate ofreaction
=9×104×4
=36×104
(iii)rate of formation of water =5× rate of reaction
=5×9×104
=45×104
