Question

among 5A group elements which element shows maximum catenation property

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

Catenation is the self linking property of an element. 5 A group of elements show catenation but on a smaller extent than carbon because of their weak bond strength. In this group, Phosphorus has a maximum tendency to form catenation, it forms cyclic as well as open-chain compounds.

Due to inter electronic repulsion in nitrogen, it has very little tendency to form catenation.
