Question

Amplitude of vibrations does not remains constant in case of:-

Open in App
Solution

In free vibrations, amplitude of vibrations always remain constant.

Amplitude of vibrations continuously decreases in damped oscillation, as the particle vibrates under the resistive force.

In maintained vibrations , energy that is lost to surroudings is provided to the oscillator is somehow provided back to it to vibrate with constant amplitude.

Amplitude of forced vibrations depend upon the frequency of applied force and the natural frequency of the oscillator. If the difference in frequencies remain constant, amplitude remains constant.

Hence, option (b) is the correct alternative.
