An absorption spectra is like the photographic negative of an emission spectra.
True
What is absorption spectrum?
When a continuum of radiations is passed through a sample, which absorbs radiation of certain wavelengths, The missing wavelengths that corresponds to the radiation absorbed by matter leave dark spaces in the bright continuous spectrum is called as absorption spectrum.
Then what is emission spectrum?
Whena sample is subjected to heating or irradiation, it absorbs radiation or energy and gets excited. As the sample gives up the absorbed energy, the wavelength (or frequency) of the radition emitted is recorded.
The arrangement of these radiations in the order of increasing wavelengths or decreasing frequencies is called emission spectrum.
so, we can imagine that an atomic spectrum will be like the photographic negative of an emission spectrum.
Look at this picture and you will understand.
