Question

An AC circuit consists of a 220 Ω resistance and a 0.7 H choke in series. Find the power (in W) absorbed from 220 V and 50 Hz source connected in series with the circuit elements (upto two decimal places)

Open in App
Solution

Given:

R=220 Ω, L=0.7 H, Vrms=220 V

ω=50 Hz

The impedance of the circuit is,

Z=R2+ ω2L2=R2+(2πfL)2

=(220)2+(2×3.14×50×0.7)2

Z=311 Ω

Now, cosϕ=RZ=220311=0.707

Also, irms=VrmsZ=220311=0.707 A

The power absorbed in the circuit

P=Vrmsirmscosϕ

=(220)(0.707)(0.707)

=110.08 W
